Art Nouveau inspired wedding in the heart of medieval city

Once in a while, in the middle of an ordinary life… love gives us a fairy tale” ~Melissa Brown

Hotel de La Cite in Carcassone, located right in the heart of the medieval city, makes truly a fairy tale venue. Built on the site of the former episcopal palace, this boutique hotel is an integral part of the heritage of Carcassonne, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its gardens, walls and stones which have survived the centuries, offer enchanting views of the medieval castle, immersing you into a real fairytale.

With its distinct and unique personality, the hotel has a strong link with the history of its region. Its stunning hall and the restaurant blends elements of art decor and art nouveau. We quickly fall in love with its cosy interiors, colourful stain glass windows, metal floral artworks. The hotel makes a perfect backdrop for a dreamy art nouveau wedding.

Art Nouveau is a style that emerged in late 19th century as a nostalgia to nature inspired forms. You can recognise it by whiplash line, floral inspired curves, asymmetry, colours and use of modern materials such as glass, iron and ceramics.

For the flowers and colours we were inspired by Alphonso Mucha artworks. Our florist, Emma Hann, used locally sourced peonies, pale pink, peach and white carnations, small garden roses and dragon flowers.

The hotel restaurant features stunning stain glass windows which became an integral element for our table decor. Sandra Dodds, the local wedding planner, used soft colours, lots of florals and delicate gold metal and glass elements to decorate the wedding table. A menu printed with an iconic female character by A. Mucha made a strong style accent. Whereas pyramid shape handmade candles added a romance to the atmosphere.

Another wonderful feature of the hotel is its luxurious spa offering jacuzzi baths and a range of treatments and massages. Perfect to be used before or after your wedding, either as a romantic date with your partner or a fun and healthy chill out with your friends.

Our bridal style is inspired by A. Mucha’s prints, featuring beautiful women in warm, pale colours, surrounded by flowers and wearing loose design ancient greek style dresses.

Our bride, Aurora, wears a long soft tulle dress by Rosa Clara. Its one shoulder feature and delicate lace on the top makes it a real masterpiece that could be worn by Ancient Greek goddesses.

The feature element of the bridal style is an asymmetrical floral crown. Its large flowers gently blending with Aurora’s soft curls by Annette Carr.

Sarah Rees used warm pink and peach colours for the bride delicate make up. The highlight was on the natural beauty with a romantic blush on the bride’s cheeks.

The bridal look was completed with a custom design jewellery by Distinctly Caitlin’s Designs. Caitlin’s silver cut pieces filled with colour enamel remind miniature stain glass windows. She is inspired by symbolical meaning of flowers. Our bride wears peonies bracelet token and a ring, symbolizing prosperity, good luck and love.

Our bride and the groom look especially gorgeous walking together around the medieval walls of the Carcassone castle.
